ooh...peony? i bought myself a white peony plant a few weeks ago and the teenage cashier pronounced it pe-OH-nee. i am notorious for mispronouncing words (runs in the family) but i thought the "pe-OH-nee" thing was so funny i've been saying it that way as a joke and now it's stuck with me. dang it. also, my dad always says "par-MEE-shun" (instead of parmesan cheese) and the same thing happened- now i have to think to say it the right way. serves me right.
